Our Halal Standard

Our Halal Standard

At ZMZM Labs, halal isn't a sticker we bought — it's the standard we build to. Every formula is developed to halal principles from the first ingredient: no alcohol, no pork or pork-derived gelatin, no animal derivatives outside halal sources. Our skincare is wudu-safe — nothing that films over skin or nails to block water for ablution.

We're transparent about what that means: ZMZM Labs holds itself to this standard openly rather than through a third-party seal — and we publish exactly what goes into, and stays out of, every product. We're not asking for a place on someone else's shelf. We're building the first Muslim-first health and beauty brand from the ground up — and that starts with telling you the truth.

Why no third-party seal?

We made a deliberate choice. Rather than license someone else's mark, we hold every product to our own published standard — and we show our work: full ingredient disclosure, the exclusion list below, and an independent lab Certificate of Analysis for every batch. You don't have to take a logo's word for it. You can read the documentation yourself.

1. Formulated to halal standards, source to shelf

Halal isn't just about the final product — it requires verification of every ingredient through the entire supply chain. We verify:

  • Animal-derived ingredients (collagen, whey) for zabiha slaughter compliance and halal-compliant facility processing
  • Capsule material (HPMC vegetable cellulose, never plain gelatin)
  • Gummy matrix (pectin-based, never porcine gelatin)
  • Excipients and processing aids (magnesium stearate source, glycerin source, etc.)
  • Flavoring systems (alcohol-free natural vanilla, not ethanol-extracted)
  • Manufacturing facility (audited for cross-contamination against our halal standard)

2. Ingredients we never use

  • Porcine gelatin — industry standard in 80%+ of supplement capsules and gummies
  • Alcohol-based excipients or flavorings
  • Carmine (cochineal red dye) — crushed beetle pigment
  • Titanium dioxide — banned in EU food
  • Magnesium stearate as a flow agent from animal sources
  • L-cysteine from undisclosed sources (often duck feathers or human hair in commodity supplements)
  • Pork-pepsin-rennet whey (industry default for most US whey protein — we use microbial-enzyme rennet)
  • Synthetic sweeteners (sucralose, aspartame, acesulfame potassium)
  • Artificial colors and flavors

3. Third-party testing, every batch

Every batch — supplements and skincare — is independently tested for:

  • Identity verification (the active is the active labeled)
  • Potency (clinically relevant doses)
  • Heavy metals (lead, arsenic, cadmium, mercury)
  • Microbials (yeasts, molds, E. coli, Salmonella)
  • Pesticides & herbicides (below USP detection thresholds)

4. Wudu-safe formulation (skincare)

For our Nūr Skincare Collection, we add a stricter standard: wudu-safe formulation. This means the formula must absorb cleanly within 60 seconds and pass a documented 30-second water-permeability test.

Excluded from skincare formulations:

  • Silicones (dimethicone, cyclopentasiloxane) — create water-impermeable films
  • SD alcohol / alcohol denat
  • Long-wear / waterproof polymers (acrylate copolymers)
  • Mineral oil
  • Artificial fragrance
  • Parabens
  • Sulfates (SLS, SLES)

5. Manufacturing and testing standards

ZMZM Labs products are manufactured in GMP-compliant, FDA-registered facilities in the United States, and tested by an independent ISO/IEC 17025-accredited lab. Our facilities hold:

  • FDA registration
  • GMP compliance (Good Manufacturing Practices)
  • ISO/IEC 17025 testing accreditation (testing lab partner)

For non-Muslim consumers

Our halal standard isn't just a religious framework — it's one of the strictest clean-label standards in the supplement industry. Formulating to halal standards means excluding porcine gelatin (in 80% of mainstream gummy supplements), alcohol-based excipients, and carmine, and requires facility audits for cross-contamination. For health-conscious buyers who care about ingredient transparency, our halal standard clears a higher bar than "clean" or "natural" labeling alone.

the halal standards process

halal, held to a higher standard.

six checkpoints between the source and your hand. tap any step to read the standard, the certification, and what it actually means.

step 01 · raw materials supplier-audited

every supplier ships their certs with the raw materials.

every ingredient is sourced from halal suppliers with country-of-origin documentation. animal-derived components are explicitly screened against an exclusion list. supplier certs are reviewed at each shipment — not just at onboarding.

step 02 · third-party zmzm verified

verified to our halal standard.

every formula is held to the zmzm verified standard — a strict exclusion list, ingredient sourcing documented end to end, and per-batch third-party contaminant testing.

we hold ourselves to this openly, rather than through a third-party seal. it's the floor, not the ceiling.

step 03 · production gmp-certified

segregated lines, never near porcine.

our gmp-certified facility runs zmzm batches in physically segregated production lines. cross-contamination protocols are documented per batch. no porcine processing aids appear anywhere in the supply chain — not in capsules, not in flow agents, not in fining agents.

step 04 · third-party labs iso/iec 17025

fourteen assays per batch, all published.

iso/iec 17025 accredited labs run the full panel on every batch: heavy metals (lead, arsenic, cadmium, mercury), microbial load, identity confirmation, potency, residual solvents, and adulterant screen.

results are published to the product page within 48 hours of release. no batch ships without its paperwork.

step 05 · packaging wudu-safe

wudu-safe materials. plant-based capsule.

capsules are 100% plant-based — no animal-derived gelcaps, no shellac, no porcine processing aids. labels and inks are wudu-safe. tamper-evident seals on every bottle. batch id printed on the label so you can pull the matching coa anytime.

step 06 · batch sign-off qa sign-off

no batch leaves without its paperwork on the public site.

each batch is signed off by the qa lead before shipment. the coa is published to the product page within 48 hours. any batch that fails any single assay is held — not reworked, not blended, not shipped.
