Apple cider vinegar is halal in itself — vinegar is explicitly permissible even where it derives from a fermented source, because the fermentation has completed. The question is never the vinegar. It is what the vinegar is delivered in.
This page is not a ranking. It is the ZMZM Labs Halal Standard applied to ACV, published so you can run it against any bottle on the shelf — including ours.
The format decides it
The standard, in three checks
- Delivery format understood. Gummies carry a gelatin question, liquid carries an enamel one, capsules carry a shell one. Every format has a check; none is exempt.
- Gelling or shell material named. Pectin for gummies, HPMC or pullulan for capsules. Unqualified "gelatin" should be assumed porcine.
- Additives sourced. Colours, sweeteners and flow agents are where undisclosed animal derivatives hide.
What ZMZM Labs makes, and how it scores
Apple Cider Vinegar Capsules — ACV in capsule form, which removes the enamel problem that makes the liquid hard to sustain daily. Formulated to the Halal Standard: alcohol-free, no pork derivatives, with the full ingredient list printed on the product page.
Taken in the Maghrib window, before the evening meal, which is when most people find it easiest to keep up.
| Check | Where ZMZM Labs stands |
|---|---|
| Format | Capsule — no enamel contact, no gummy gelatin base. |
| Additives sourced | Full ingredient list published on the product page. |
| Named certifying body | None. ZMZM Labs holds no third-party halal certification and does not imply one. |
Why we publish the standard
ZMZM Labs was built on the position that a brand should show its working, and name what it has not yet verified. The Halal Standard is that position written down, and the open questions live at ingredients with the date each was asked.
It is an ethical foundation before a commercial one — a voice for young Muslims who grew up reading labels written for someone else, and for anyone who wants their practice and their products built on the same trust.
Frequently asked questions
Is apple cider vinegar halal?
Yes. Vinegar is permissible, including where it results from completed fermentation. The scholarly consensus is broad on this point.
Are ACV gummies halal?
Usually not, unless the base is explicitly pectin. The industry default gel base is porcine gelatin, and the ACV itself has nothing to do with it.
Does ACV actually do anything?
Evidence is modest. The better-supported effects relate to post-meal blood glucose response. Treat any claim about substantial weight loss as marketing.
When should I take it?
Before a meal, which in the Barakah Schedule usually means the Maghrib window. Capsules avoid the enamel erosion that makes daily liquid ACV difficult to sustain.
